Welcome!
Climate change has the potential to become the greatest crisis humanity has ever faced. Energy security, i.e. the reliable supply of energy at affordable prices, is inextricably linked to the climate challenge: we will only prevent a dangerous climatic shift and social and economic catastrophe if we succeed in saving energy and producing it in a sustainable, climate-friendly way. A technological modernization process - amounting in scale to a third industrial revolution - is required, and it will only be accomplished if the world's most competent, creative, and powerful actors can be engaged.
I am very happy that AICGS has made the climate and energy challenge a main focus of its program. In the past, Germany and the United States have often disagreed on the severity of the problem as well as means and ways to best approach it. FACET aims at enriching the transatlantic dialogue on climate change and energy by providing a forum for open exchange. Americans and Europeans, together with their partners in other regions, can meet the challenge. I encourage you to take part in the discussion as to how.
